Overfiftiesfriends.co.uk is a unique site for over 50s in the UK. It is intended to help people in this section of society to find friends with similar interests and organise activities together. Below we have listed some of the most common questions we receive about the site. If you have any more questions, please click on All About and then Contact us (left menu).
Q: I am 43 years old, am I not welcome as a member of overfiftiesfriends.co.uk? A: You are very welcome. We created a cut-off point in line with demographic trends at the moment and in future. As long as you are prepared to message and meet predominantly over fifties friends, feel free to register.
Q: Is membership of the site free? A: There is a free membership option known as Basic membership. Full membership (with more functionality) costs just £10, of which £1 goes to charity. Click here for details on membership.
Q: What exactly is the idea of the Activites Section? A: The activities section functions as a forum. The idea is to post or create activities here (e.g. "Golf. I am looking for eight people of mixed company to play golf on x date at x golf club. Requirements: all applicants must have a handicap below 25 and be prepared to travel to...") Just click on "create an activity" once you have registered/logged in and fill in the simple form.
Q: I have a lot of people interested in my activity and want to finalise it. What is the best way to do so?

Q: Do we have to use our real names when registering?
A: The reason we ask users to use their real names, is to avoid nicknames and maintain a level of realism and professionalism. If you are however worried about giving away your full name online, why not just use your first name plus an initial? We want people to make real friends here, but caution is of course always advisable.
Q: Will my email address be disclosed to others?A: No, your email address will not be disclosed to other members or to third parties.
Q: What is "Instant Chat"?
A: The Instant Chat function allows you to chat to other members who are online at the same time. You can see in their profile if they are online. If you want to chat with them in real time, just click "Start instant chat" next to their photo. Once the member has accepted, you can "talk" in real time.
Q: How does the placename/postcode search work?
A: When you do a member search, one of the criteria you can choose is "placename or postcode". This enables you to search members within a certain radius of the postcode or placename you enter. So you can put in your own, or if you plan to visit somewhere, see who comes from that area...
Q: Is this a dating site?
A: Good question! We feel that "dating" can be a daunting concept for people who have perhaps divorced or been widowed and are at a later stage in life. So we want to help with friendship. We also encourage group activities, organised by you, the members. If this leads to dating and happy encounters, great! But overfiftiesfriends.co.uk is all about over 50s meeting with safety in numbers and getting out and getting active!
