My apologies-the date for this event is Sunday 20th July 2008.
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 21:46 24/06/2008
Hoorah!
I'll do my best to be there.
Gwen GPosted: 22:51 24/06/2008
Gerry, I'll be buying my ticket tomorrow! really looking forward to the day! If going to arrive after 11am deadline will let you know.
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 22:35 25/06/2008
Anybody else? Come on, a trip to a glorious stately home and grounds, and wild animals, not to mention tea and cake.
IsisPosted: 22:56 25/06/2008
Would love to, but not able to drive that far ! In the two years I have been back here, I think I have done 100 miles !!!
Still not brave enough to do Motorways. I am sure it will be a super day for all of you.
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 08:55 26/06/2008
I can't drive at all Isis, so you're better than me. If you want to get the train or coach, you could stay with me overnight. Anyway, no pressure.
IsisPosted: 23:09 26/06/2008
Hazel
Just seen your post..........thank you so much for the offer.....I feel very blessed that you thought of a possible solution for me. I will definitely look at all possibilities for train or coach.
Gwen GPosted: 18:27 27/06/2008
And - Isis - as I am going to pick Hazel up to go there, I can pick you up too, if you take her up on her offer of the overnight stay!
IsisPosted: 21:25 27/06/2008
Gwen
That would have been super.............but
I have searched umpteen ways, by train, coach, bus...in all it would take me at least 8hrs. I must definitely do some "learning" as to where places are. My Geography is appalling. One day, I would love the chance to see your part of the World.
Gwen GPosted: 15:44 28/06/2008
Isis, I had forgotten which part of the world you're in, just checked, and yes, it is a bit far, but we'll tell you all about our day!!
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 20:18 28/06/2008
Can I go for a ride on an elephant, Auntie Gwen????
Gwen GPosted: 00:31 29/06/2008
Oooo, Errr, Mmmm, only if I can too Hazelnut, but Grandad Gerry might not let us!!!
Gwen GPosted: 20:10 29/06/2008
This should be a really interesting day, surely there are more of us out there who would like to go?
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 09:41 01/07/2008
Can't believe your all turning down a trip to the zoo! There'll be icecream.....
Gwen GPosted: 20:33 01/07/2008
... the horticultural interest, the historical aspects, the restaurant, the chance to meet at least 3 OFF members....and the main attraction, all those endangered species of animals that we wouldn't usually get the chance to see.....
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 10:42 02/07/2008
and who wouldn't usually get a chance to see us.....
Reflections989Posted: 12:18 02/07/2008
All the people from this site who are going, do you all know each other or will this be your first meeting each other?
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 16:08 02/07/2008
I see you girls have been having fun with this topic whilst I've been away on business the other side of The Ditch. Sorry to disillusion you,Gigi, sadly I'm not a grandad, but I am a Grumpy Old Man (and have the hat to prove it!). In answer to your question,Reflections 989,I have yet to meet the other interested members, but I have corresponded with them via Over50s.
Gwen GPosted: 22:33 02/07/2008
So, Grumpy Old Man....we can't tell from what's been posted, but we've been trying to create some interest... is it going to be the 3 of us, or are there others joining us?!! Whatever, I think we're in for a wonderful day out!!!
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 09:51 03/07/2008
Gwen,it might be just you,me and Hazel G (that reminds me of a song). I am trying to persuade some other friends of mine to come along, they're not all over fifty, yet, but hopefully one day they will be! Punched in my credit card and printed my ticket last night,so I'm ready to roll.
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 14:00 03/07/2008
Yippee! We're going to the zoo! Woohoo!
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 14:49 03/07/2008
Who going to the zoo? Just me and you two, too? Will you be wearing a tutu? What about the archbishop,Desmond?
Gwen GPosted: 00:20 04/07/2008
Are you on speaking terms then?!
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 01:14 04/07/2008
Who, you too? (Can you hear an owl?)
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 14:41 04/07/2008
It's not an owl-it's a hoopoe! I was going to drive down, but maybe I'll get the choo-choo. Then again,if I came by plane,I could say that I,one of the few, flew.
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 15:40 04/07/2008
Having re-read the time line on your posting,Hazel,it probably was an owl-I think that most hoopoes are in bed at that time in the morning!
Gwen GPosted: 18:53 04/07/2008
Anyone else want to come to the zoo, with the archbishop, the owl and the hoopo? Go on, we're mad, you'll have a great day!!!
David F. SpencePosted: 20:05 04/07/2008
Well if you've got to be mad! Count me in Gerry. My little car's just sailed through its MOT, so I'm going to breeze on down to Port Lympne for my ice cream. SmileyCentral.com

Gwen GPosted: 20:14 04/07/2008
How did you do that - I've tried adding bits to threads, but not been able to, mind you I'm rubbish at modern technology!! Scrumptious looking ice cream!!
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 13:47 05/07/2008
Hoorah! (Who invited the Archbishop?)
The more the merrier.
And I love the panda David.
It was certainly an owl, it was wearing spectacles.
I'm just watching the entire series of Black Books, as the office needs tidying.
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 14:42 05/07/2008
Welcome aboard,Dave! Don't reckon on sailing too far at Port Lympne-the last time I was there the tide was out and had been for the past few millenia! (Can you work the same trick on the petrol in my tank,as you've done to Smiley's ice cream? I've been watching it for 10mins now and it doesn't get any less!)Please may I wear my GOM hat back-to-front? You'll still recognise me as it has GOM on the back (front?). Perhaps I should put it on sideways, to warn off anyone who has the temerity to walk beside me.
David F. SpencePosted: 20:30 05/07/2008
Now that's the best sort of ice cream...never gets smaller! Tried to find a tiger to put in your tank, Gerry...hope the lion works!

Gwen GPosted: 00:49 06/07/2008
It should do...whoowwrrar...
Gwen GPosted: 09:46 07/07/2008
Dave/Gerry - jst had a thought that might help to attract a few others to this event....some sort of picture or animation similar to the above, in the "picture" field next to the title of the activity? Over to you....
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 10:00 07/07/2008
Fantastic idea. Maybe a link to I-Tunes with a video of the Furies singing Zoological Gardens. Or maybe I'm getting carried away....Who are these men in white coats?
David F. SpencePosted: 12:51 07/07/2008
As Gerry is the originator of this event, he's the only one that can add pics or animation etc.

Gwen GPosted: 15:17 07/07/2008
Weeeey...Gerry?
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 16:12 07/07/2008
Thanks for the advice,chaps-I did try to lift a pic from the Port Lympne site, but I think it must have been "watermarked" or copywritten (copywrote?) anyway,it didn't come onto my posting. Out of interest,if you check there have been roughly twice as many "views" on this event as there have been "replies". Maybe it's too far for many members to travel, the date clashes or just that our jolly banter has put off the more staid among us. Who knows? Two's company, three's a crowd,so four of us must be a positive horde!
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 18:03 07/07/2008
I check to see if anyone has added anything new, so some of those views are me. I'm as sane as the next man, but he's barking!
Maybe David could send you one of his creatures to add. Harrycool is good at adding pictures. Maybe he could help, Gerry?
Gwen GPosted: 20:05 08/07/2008
As the owner, only Gerry can do that, although, I'm sure if you ask Support, they will probably be able to help!
Gerald (Gerry) WallacePosted: 23:35 20/07/2008
Thanks for coming chaps, here's to the next one!
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 00:33 21/07/2008
What a great day! Will put some notes and pics about it when I'm less exhausted!
David F. SpencePosted: 11:33 21/07/2008
Thanks Gerry for a great event! Super weather & it was great meeting more new faces.

Gwen GPosted: 11:51 21/07/2008
It was a really enjoyable day, and also good to meet the faces and real people! Thanks for arranging, Gerry!
Hazel GreenwoodPosted: 23:46 21/07/2008
I don't know about you lot, but I'm exhausted!
