While we were expecting the Lumin to be a full-size electric grill, it turned out to be another portable design. That leaves the question of, what about the Weber Pulse? The Weber Pulse is an electric grill that has already been on the market for some time. I think this function could be a game changer for people in condos or apartments that otherwise would have no way to smoke food, but it’s also a great function for people who want to take a super-portable grill on the go with them when they’re camping, hiking, or traveling. Steaming on the Weber Lumin My next experiment involved smoking a salmon fillet so I followed the instructions and replaced the left-hand grill top with the smoking tray and filled it with wood chips. Why Weber suggest the left side and not the right I don't know – I mean it’s not as if the left side of the heating element is a different temperature to the right. But anyway, Weber recommend starting on full heat for about 5 minutes to get the chips smoking and then reducing the temperature by turning the dial to the smoke icon. I’ve got to say, the results were really impressive – the fish was perfectly cooked and it definitely had a light texture and very pleasant smokey flavour.But, the proof is in the pudding: how did everything taste? The steak and skewers tasted delicious and had a real smoky flavour, due to the Weber Lumin’s smoking system. I was also very impressed with the gyozas as they were perfectly steamed yet still had an undertone of smokiness too. Removing the two screws holding the element in place is easy enough, allowing you to clean the element and the grill’s interior. However, we don’t want to have to do this after every time we cook fatty foods. There are no handles The easy-to-use control element attaches to the side of the Weber Lumin and detaches for easy storage.

The true advantage of electric cooking is that it offers fast warm-up times and is responsive to changes. These two combinations make the Weber Lumin exceptionally easy to cook on, and far less hassle than gas or coals. In fact, I BBQ a lot more with an electric model than I do otherwise, as it’s just so much easier to get going. We wouldn’t recommend leaving your barbecue exposed to the elements outside all year round. However, if you don’t want to move your barbecue inside after every use (and we can’t say we blame you), then you should consider getting the Lumin premium barbecue cover. While the cooking area is smaller than a full-sized grill, it’s definitely big enough to feed a family. Plus, the ability to smoke, steam, and grill all in one gives you a lot of options when you’re cooking. I've probably already made it pretty clear that I am a serious fan of the Lumin Electric Barbecue. If you have a small outdoor space and are looking for a BBQ that is as easy to use as your oven then it is worth the investment. It has been made for even the smallest outdoor spaces with the Lumin compact option. Another factor to consider is how many people you will be cooking for. If you plan to use the barbecue as an extension to your kitchen throughout the summer, mostly cooking for a small group like you and your partner, the compact model might be the way to go.The Lumin can reach temperatures of over 600°F, so you don’t have to worry about being able to get a great sear on steaks, burgers, and more. Plus, the smoke infusion function allows you to add wood chips and add a layer of smoky flavor to the food you’re cooking.
